Industry Problems
Most investing "wisdom" in the world comes from a place of ignorance, and ignorance is expensive. Experts will say "stay the course" or "hold on for dear life."Â All these terms are referencing one strategy which is buy and hold. Buy and hold feels good when the market is moving up nicely, but when the market tanks, buy and hold leaves you completely unprotected.
Buy and hold is outdated. Traditional financial advisors often use buy and hold because this is what has always been done. When you buy and hold the market you can never beat the market. In fact, you are guaranteed to lose to the market once all the fees and commissions are subtracted from your returns regardless of whether they are positive or negative. Simply put, buy and hold is a strategy advisors use when they do not know how to beat the market.
Far worse than buy and hold are financial advisors who think they can beat the market but have no real plan in doing so. When their ideas are all theoretical and not proven out, this poses a great risk to your hard-earned money. You do not want your money managed by those who are guessing at the market all the while charging you management fees.
